Día De Los Muertos Selvedge - Bat 🦇

Día De Los Muertos Selvedge - Bat 🦇
Sep 13, 2026

A new chapter in our Día De Los Muertos Selvedge, inspired by one of Mexico’s most meaningful traditions. Woven in Japan from 100% Mexican upland cotton and finished with original artwork by Mexico City tattoo artist José Ruiz, this year’s edition turns to the bat, an ancient symbol of the underworld, transformation, and rebirth.

AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 17 · 11AM ET

THE HERITAGE

Día De Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition dedicated to remembering and honoring loved ones who have passed.

Rather than treating death as an ending, the celebration brings memory, life, and the afterlife together through color, ritual, art, and symbolism.

This year’s Día De Los Muertos Selvedge explores one of the darker figures rooted in ancient Mesoamerican mythology: the bat.

THE BAT

The vegetable-tanned leather patch and pocket flasher feature original artwork by Mexico City tattoo artist José Ruiz, aka Koopa.

At the center is the bat, representing Camazotz, the Maya “death bat” associated with darkness, the underworld, and sacrifice.

Bats occupied the space between worlds, emerging from caves at night and returning underground by day. This connection to darkness and the earth made them powerful symbols of death, rebirth, and transformation.

José Ruiz brings that symbolism to life in an illustration created specifically for this year’s denim.

THE DENIM

The Día De Los Muertos Selvedge is a 12.5oz Japanese selvedge denim, woven in Okayama on vintage shuttle looms.

Made from 100% Mexican upland cotton, the denim uses rope-dyed short slub yarns that create an irregular texture throughout the surface. With wear, those variations will produce dramatic vertical character and high-contrast fades.

Flip the cuff to reveal a multicolor selvedge edge inspired by traditional Mexican sarape blankets, bringing the vivid colors of Día De Los Muertos directly into the fabric.
