Blood Brothers Selvedge

What started with a pair of red-core jeans cut into boots became the Blood Brothers collaboration.

the story

Blood Brothers

It began when Weston Kay of Rose Anvil noticed our Elephant 13 Red Core Selvedge, a heavyweight indigo denim designed to reveal red with wear. Inspired by the connection to Rose Anvil’s Blood Core leather, he turned a pair into sample boots with Russell Moccasin. When we saw the video, we knew the project had to happen.

That original idea evolved into Blood Brothers Selvedge, a new 20oz Japanese selvedge denim developed specifically for this collaboration between Naked & Famous Denim, Rose Anvil, and Russell Moccasin.

Blood Red Core Denim

The 20oz Japanese selvedge denim combines a blood red-core warp yarn, an indigo rope-dyed exterior, and a black weft, creating a denim counterpart to Rose Anvil’s custom Blood Core leather, a black leather designed to reveal a deep red patina with wear.

For this limited edition, we developed a heavyweight warp yarn first dyed blood red all the way to the core, then rope-dyed in indigo. As the denim breaks in and the indigo fades, the hidden blood red core gradually emerges. Cut into the fabric and you can even see the blood red at the center of the yarn.

Woven with a black weft and built at a heavyweight 20oz, the fabric starts rigid and structured with serious fading potential for anyone who likes denim that fights back a little. The custom leather patch is also made using Rose Anvil’s Blood Core leather, developed with Seidel Tannery in Milwaukee.
