MIJ19 - Amaterasu Selvedge
The MIJ19 Amaterasu Selvedge takes its name from Amaterasu, the sun goddess of Shinto mythology and the mythical ancestor of the Japanese Imperial Family. Her name, 天照 (Amaterasu), reflects both her identity and her role. Ama (天) means “heaven,” while terasu (照) means “to shine” or “to illuminate.” Together, they describe her divine duty to illuminate the heavens and bring light to the world. Amaterasu is revered as the highest-ranking kami in the Shinto pantheon, standing above the countless deities often referred to as the “eight million gods.”
Just as Amaterasu’s light illuminates the heavens, this fabric is defined by brightness and warmth. Woven in Japan from 11.5oz selvedge denim, the warp yarns are rope dyed with natural indigo, creating a soft, luminous shade of blue. The rope-dyeing process leaves the core of each warp yarn white, allowing the denim to develop a classic range of blue-to-white fades with wear.
