Made with naturally green cotton on the weft and rope-dyed indigo on the warp, this 13oz Japanese selvedge denim has a deep indigo face with an earthy green-grey reverse hiding underneath. It’s one of the rarest and most unusual FoxFibre® denims we’ve had the chance to work with.
Cotton That Grows Green
Cotton breeder Sally Fox has worked with naturally colored cotton since the 1980s. Through selective breeding, she developed FoxFibre® varieties whose color is already present in the fibre before it is spun or woven.
The green variety is particularly rare. It produces much lower yields than brown FoxFibre® and has shorter fibres, making it more difficult to spin into a strong, consistent yarn.
Grown in the United States, the cotton is sent to Osaka, where Taishoboseki spins it into yarn.

Deepening the Green
The green FoxFibre® weft receives an iron treatment known as mordanting. Iron reacts with the pigment naturally present in the fibre, deepening and stabilizing its color and giving it an earthy green-grey tone.
Woven with an indigo rope-dyed warp, it creates a 13oz Japanese selvedge denim with a dark indigo face and a distinctive green-grey reverse. With washing and wear, the green-grey tone becomes more pronounced.
