Army Green Duck Canvas Selvedge Folded

Due to its smooth face and natural durability, duck canvas has been used for just about everything. “Duck canvas” or “cotton duck” comes from the Dutch “doek,” which simply means “cloth” but used to refer to heavy fabric used for outerwear and protective garments. People have sailed oceans with sails made from duck canvas and have used duck canvas to upholster furniture. Think “duct tape” has its history taping ducts? First it was called “duck tape” from using strips of duck canvas to reinforce everything from shoes to electrical cables. Looking for a blank canvas for an oil painting? And it’s still a workwear favorite to this day.

Its secret is a tightly woven 2x1 plain weave, so two exterior-facing yarns go over each single interior-facing yarn. This creates a smooth surface that won’t pull or rip easily. Ours is a 10oz Japanese selvedge duck canvas dyed army green and finished with a contrasting red line selvedge ID. Tonal stitching, the dark brown full grain leather patch, and dark copper buttons and rivets round out the hardwearing aesthetic.
