The MIJ16 Genseki Selvedge is a 19oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge denim developed for maximum texture and character. Genseki translates to “raw ore,” a term used to describe unrefined stone in its natural, extracted state. The name reflects the fabric perfectly. Dense, rough, and heavily textured, this denim feels raw and elemental. Woven using slubby and neppy yarns, the fabric displays an intense, irregular surface with visible neps throughout. This yarn character is amplified through low-tension weaving, allowing the fibers to relax and shift on the loom. An earthy-toned weft adds warmth beneath the indigo warp, enhancing contrast and depth as the denim ages.
To preserve the denim’s hairiness, rough texture, and unsanforized character, the MIJ16 undergoes a Tempi treatment. This process shrinks the fabric while maintaining its raw surface and structural integrity, removing guesswork from sizing while keeping the denim true to its original feel.
The selvedge edge features an indigo–red–indigo micro-busted line. The narrower selvedge width allows the warp color to extend closer to the edge, with a fine red line providing subtle contrast.
The MIJ16 is finished with a full suite of Made in Japan details, including 100% iron buttons that will rust over time, 100% copper rivets that will oxidize, and raised belt loops designed to fade with wear. A Japanese sheepskin leather patch featuring the “Flower of Carnage” logo anchors the back, while functional details include a selvedge button fly, peekaboo selvedge coin pocket, two-tone stitching, and a chainstitched hem. A maple leaf embroidery on the back pocket completes the MIJ signature.
The MIJ16 is made in Japan from start to finish, from yarn preparation and dyeing to weaving, cutting, and sewing.
In terms of aging and fade potential, the MIJ16 stands alongside the most celebrated MIJ releases. Expect high-contrast fades, deep creasing, and dramatic texture evolution over time. If you’re familiar with the fade performance of the MIJ10, the MIJ16 delivers a similarly intense transformation, with even greater surface complexity.
The Heritage Jacket pays homage to old type denim jackets capturing the essence of vintage style. It features a pleated front, flap chest pockets and adjustable rear buttons to ensure the perfect fit.
