Dia De Los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, is a profoundly beautiful Mexican tradition dedicated to remembering departed loved ones and guiding souls into the afterlife. This year, we honor this vibrant cultural observance with a brand-new iteration of the Dia De Los Muertos Selvedge.
Featured on this year’s release is new artwork on the vegetable-tanned leather patch, created by the talented tattoo artist José Ruiz from Mexico City. His illustration shows a skeleton being guided by the Xoloitzcuintli, or Xolo, the sacred Mexican hairless dog believed to escort souls across a mystical river into the underworld. This powerful motif of gentle guidance, alongside subtle iconography like agave plants, roots the design firmly in Mexican tradition.
The heritage goes beyond the artwork and is quite literally woven into the fabric. This 12.5oz Japanese selvedge denim is made from 100% Mexican upland cotton, directly honoring its cultural origins. It’s woven in Okayama, Japan, on vintage shuttle looms using indigo rope-dyed yarns that will evolve into dramatic, high-contrast vertical fades with wear. The selvedge ID, visible when you flip the cuff, features a playful multicolor stripe inspired by traditional Mexican sarape blankets.
The Dia De Los Muertos Selvedge will be available in a wide range of fits so everyone can take part in the celebration, including the Super Guy, Weird Guy, Easy Guy, True Guy, Strong Guy, and True Girl.
This limited-edition denim releases on October 16th. Grab your pair at Naked & Famous Denim Montreal, Naked & Famous Denim NYC, and select retailers around the world.
