Fading Contest Results! – Indigo/Indigo Selvedge

About 6 months ago we announced our very first Denim Fading Contest… Now, the results are in!

We would really like to thank everyone who entered and who had fun beating up their indigo/indigo 14.5oz selvedge denim jeans for this contest! I was curious as to how these jeans would fade due to the warp and weft yarns both being rope-dyed indigo, and I’m very happy to see some amazing results!

Everyone who entered automatically wins a little prize. This time we have decided to give away a denim bowtie or necktie to everyone who entered. (We’ll mail those out later this week.) There is a grand prize winner who wins a free custom made pair of N&F jeans from their choice of a selection of denim fabrics from our private collection. Plus, 2 runners up get a free N&F shirt.

Without further ado, the winners are…

GRAND PRIZEMike F – His jeans were the most transformed, had great contrast fading everywhere, mean combs, and the fit was perfect too. Plus his dog looks pretty cool. Congratulations Mike!

1st RUNNER UPFrodo – Hailing all the way from Korea, Frodo showed us some seriously impressive fades, and by far the most odd (but really innovative and neat) back pocket fade we’ve ever seen! Frodo’s real name is Kyoung No Lee but he says “Nickname is Frodo. Why?? I’m be short HaHaHa.” I asked him how he got that crazy back pocket fade and he showed us the photo below where he created his own unique hard-paper die and kept it in his back pocket for 6 months! I have no idea how he actually made that hard-paper die but he’s clearly one crafty dude! Check out his photos below both before and after wash.

2nd RUNNER UPAnthony C – Just great overall fades. My sales manager flipped-out over the superb contrast and texture that he got on the front on his jeans. Well done Anthony.

Ok, now for the honorable mentions…

David G – If there was room for another winner that would probably go to David. Great contrast fades, plus a neat double knife pocket fade.

Matthew P – Cool “Lock fade” in the coin-pocket!

Mark C – I like his indigo stained driver seat!

Jason H – You certainly win the “laziest results photo” award!

Nick U – Great fit and cool doggie…

Sean S - Thanks for visiting me in SF whilst wearing your contest jeans! Sean was high up in the running as well, but sadly not everyone can win the grand prize.

Prashant M – Great detail shots… I especially like the indigo stained leather goods.

Thanks again to everyone who participated! Even if your photo was not posted on the page here we still loved all your photos and look forward to more fun contests in the near future. Which brings me to my next point… Next fading contest will be announced tomorrow!!! Stay tuned…

Hey Brandon can you tell me what kind of shoes you are wearing in the photo above. Much thanks. Alex

  2. Brandon Post author

Hey Alex, I actually don’t even remember… I think that was a vintage pair I picked up in Japan and I don’t know the brand… I can check again when I get home.

  3. Barrett

Besides wearing every day you can, what are the secrets here? How do you get the crazy contrast in the combs???

  4. Brandon Post author

Hey Barrett, I don’t think there are any secrets… you just gotta wear your jeans hard! Perhaps these guys went biking in the jeans and I’m sure running around everyday chasing his dog didn’t hurt the winner’s jeans either! My sales manager even sleeps in his jeans just to get more hours of fading time…

  5. Anthony C

There is no secret, I’m a student and sat on my ass for 6 months. Just wear your jeans! That’s what they’re there for!

  6. Kevin

Hey Brandon, which fit is Nick U wearing? By any chance would those be skinny guys in black selvedge?

  7. Brandon Post author

Hey Kevin, no those are WeirdGuy Indigo/Indigo selvedge. All these guys are wearing the exact same jeans! Those just look super dark because that photo is a pre-fade photo. Meaning, that is what the jeans looked like brand new! They were super dark indigo outside and inside which makes them appear black in low-light.

Hey Brandon, Was just wondering if there was confirmation we would of received if we entered the contest. Not gonna lie denim tie sounds pretty bad ass. Appreciate the generosity, wouldn’t mind wearing it to a upcoming wedding!

Brandon – you folks should do a take on the commuter jean. Bike lock flap, etc… But mainly the entire weft being reflective, so you have nice useful reflectors.

Excited to see which jeans are in the next contest.

  10. Duncan

With such great fades from this one, I wish i’d entered. So Brandon, when is the next competition?

  11. Haywood

Brandon, i notice that you roll up your jeans at the bottom. What is your opinion on rolling up jeans vs hemming if it’s too long (say 3-4 inches)?

  12. Brandon Post author

Haywood – Actually, in the photo above I’m wearing a 4in cuff not a roll. But I also can’t give you a straight answer for your question because the choice is personal. If jeans are too long, you can: a) cuff, b) roll, c) stack or d) hem.
If you prefer a straighter/cleaner silhouette then I suggest to get them hemmed.

Brandon, any updates on the next competition? wanna know if i should start on my new pair of N&F or join the competition.

  14. Nei

Hey Brandon, what is the style name of these jeans?

And do you know where I can get a pair, they look great!

  15. Sal Russo

Kyle I believe they were only offered on the Barneys website but they are no longer available there…U might find a pair on one of the denim blog sites or look out on ebay.

Mike F, Kyoung No Lee (Frodo), Anthony C, David G, Matthew P, Nick U, Prashant M, Jason H and Mark C:

Could you guys give a quick description of your soaks and/or washes?

  17. alex

Hey guys anyone looking for a pair of these indigo/indigos can find them at blue owl workshop. They have a few sizes still available. Just a little fyi.

  18. Mark C

    Hi Joel,

No washes or soaks on mine. The only water that touched them was rain and snow (and sweat).

  19. michael

i wish you guys would make more of these jeans, i missed the contest but they really are one of the coolest pairs of jeans i’ve ever seen.

  20. Clarense

I’d like to know what style Mike Faulkner’s jeans are. They don’t appear to taper in the leg. I’m guessing the Slimguy or Regularguy.
